Tolland, CT   March, 2019 – Local fiber artist, Kathy Bagioni, exhibits her latest collection, Celebrating Women in the Arts at the Tolland Public Library, in Tolland, Connecticut, for the month of March. Premiering during National Women’s History Month, the collection showcases 14 female artists from across the globe.  There are pieces honoring diverse women, from Florence Griswold in CT to the women of the Pacific Northwest tribes.  There are very famous women, such as, Georgia O’Keeffe celebrated for her large scale florals, to the lesser known collage artist, Vivienne Binns.

This collection pays tribute to the old and the new.   Each featured artist is represented in a piece that represents her signature style but is not an attempt to copy a specific work.   Trying new techniques and stretching the boundaries of fiber art intrigues Kathy. Fiber is always the base but each piece also incorporates paper and paint and other non-traditional elements. Initially, she thought this would only be an exercise in trying new techniques but it turned into much more.   The stories of these women, their struggles, and successes became as intriguing as the art work.

Ms. Bagioni has produced quilts and quilted pieces for many years. She has produced commissioned works for customers across the country.  Her art has been accepted in venues from local quilt shows to international competitions.  She is also a liturgical artist making individual vestments and altar pieces for worship spaces.

The collection will move to the Willimantic Thread Museum in May, June, and July.   A gallery talk has been scheduled for May 5th at the museum.   More information to be confirmed in press release to come.
